ODD SIGHT

This morning on my way to work I saw something that made me do a double-take. A nicely dressed woman driving an expensive car (important...because if it had been a 19 year old in a Datsun, I wouldn't have really been surprised) was drinking from a gallon...did you hear me?...a GALLON milk carton! A half a gallon? Maybe. But a whole gallon? She couldn't even see to drive! Is this weird or is it just me?

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Do monkeys have belly buttons?

This weekend I noticed that a stuffed monkey I received for my birthday had a very large belly button. I assumed monkeys have belly buttons. Why wouldn't they? First, I looked in my monkey photo folder, but I couldn't see a belly button in any of the photos because they are just too hairy (like a few people I know!) I assumed that a simple search would give me the answer, and indeed, it did. Monkeys DO have belly buttons but when a monkey’s belly fur is long or thick the belly button is usually hard to see.

DANCE REVOLUTION

On the way to church on Sunday, I told Mr. PoMonkey that I thought there just wasn't enough dancing in the world and that a lot of the problems might be solved if everyone would just stop and dance every once in a while! He just kinda laughed at me.

Just think about it. Close your eyes and imagine how much fun it would be if during the day, people would just break out in a dance....a little waltz, a little jitterbug, a little cotton-eyed Joe, etc. You couldn't help but smile!

9:59 A.M.

This morning at 9:59 I will have made it around the sun once again. Having been born at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, I can't help but have a little southern in me and a little Baptist in me. Explains a lot, doesn’t it? (The hospital was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and is currently being re-built.)

I received this wonderful, birthday T-shirt from my brother-in-law and sister-in-law. It’s perfect! I sure wish I could wear it to work today!

(By the way, I’ve always been thrilled to know that I share a birthday with Kenny Rogers.)

MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN

**Sap Alert**

One more reason why Mr. PoMonkey and I are perfect for each other:

He likes the ice cream, I like the cone.
I was reminded of this on Sunday, and wondered what it would be like if we both wanted the ice cream or if we both wanted the cone. Sharing would be so much harder. It's a good thing God had it all figured out!

HERE I GO

Well...it's time.

Today I head back to the land of asbestos-filled floor tiles, lingering smells of vomit mixed with pencil shavings,
mystery meat lunches, non-air conditioned rooms, and gymnasiums that smell like 50 years of rancid sneakers.

And it won't be long until 60 (yes, 60!!) buses arrive
and the halls are filled with crying first graders who can't tell you their name, crying parents who refuse to leave, smirking third graders who think they own they campus (they're 3rd graders for goodness sakes!), and smiling teachers who spent two month's salary to make their classroom enticing and exciting for all the little ones who will become like family before the year is over. Where, oh, where did the summer go?

(And for those of you who are muttering under your breath that I at least got 2 months off. Shame on you...remember I only get paid for the days I work, not for the summer!)

MONKEY DOUGH MASTERPIECE

On one of our many trips this summer, we had dinner at a mexican restaurant in St. Charles, MO with some friends and their precious daughter, Hope. Instead of giving out crayons and puzzles to entertain children while waiting for food, this cool place gives out tortilla dough. I, of course, was as thrilled as Hope was about this. She was a good sport and attempted to make every shape I began to call out. And, no surprise here, I suggested that she make a monkey. Picture #1 is Hope's Monkey Masterpiece. (I helped with the tail.) I thought she did a fabulous job, and I'm quite sure I could not have done any better! For kicks, I also asked her to sculpt me. Picture #2 is yours truly. The resemblence is striking!

BACK IN BUSINESS

Yes, I've returned!

I apologize for being gone for so long. I hoped that my summer break would allow me to post more often, but my time on the computer was much less. In fact, when I last checked my Yahoo email account there were 539 new messages. (What do you think? Should I just "delete all" or actually go through them?)

So if there's anyone out there who still visits PoMonkey and still cares about monkeys, I promise I'll be around more regularly now. And even if I've lost all my readers, I'll still post anyway...the monkey show must go on!
