SPOOKY, SPOOKY

I wish my pumpkin had turned out like this, but we all know that I really have no artistic abilities.

We carved pumpkins on Monday with friends. Mr. PoMonkey took the easy way out! (And we all admitted afterwards, the smartest way!) He was then able to devote the rest of his evening to the Green Bay/Denver game. Anya won the award for longest carving EVER! Although, it turned out quite nice. She finally left around 1:00 am!
Marge and Jimbo (well, actually just Marge - Jimbo showed more support for Monday Night Football and...making fun of the rest of us) created an excellent Kitty Pumpkin.
And I did the best I could.
His name is Happy Hal! And he makes me laugh.

HALLOWEEN PLANNING

I know you've probably seen a lot of these, but here are my favorites.
And, no, Bailey doesn't have a costume yet.
What's your favorite?

GO SEE BELLA

On Friday, October 26th, bella premiered in select theaters nationwide. It opens in more theaters on November 9. If it's in your city, please support this excellent life affirming film. We talked with several people from the movie last week in Washington DC and they are praying for a large turnout.
Eduardo Verástegui is one of the main characters. For years he was a hugely successful soap opera star and singer, "the Brad Pitt of Mexico." But after experiencing a deeper commitment to his Roman Catholic faith, Verástegui began to regret his part in reinforcing adulterous "Latin lover" stereotypes. In a speech this past May to the annual pro-life Rose Dinner in Ottawa, Verástegui said that some of his earlier work had sent messages that are "poisoning society." He went on, "It broke my heart. I realized that I was offending God." He summed up, "I wasn't born to be famous or rich. I was born to know and love and serve our Lord Jesus Christ." - Christianity Today

DAILY BAILEY #3

I miss my Bailey! I can't wait to get back in town to see her. (This photo is not posed...this is how she was actually sleeping. Aren't you glad to know that she's faithful to monkeys too?)

BET YOU HAVEN'T HEARD THIS

Minda Loo Hoo shared with me today that she heard the following traffic report on the radio today on her way to work (remember, she lives in Singapore):

"Caution on the PIE (expressway), dead
monkey in middle of road, causing back up."

Bet you haven't heard that one before! I sure hope it's not one of my friends.

AND WE'RE OFF

What a stud...

Conference Schedule

Thursday:
Hollywood Bioethics
Stem Cells, Cloning, and the Search for the Holy Grail

Friday:

They say there will be 3,500 at Thursday's Chapel, so thanks for praying.

MONKEY PEELER

I don't think I'd ever buy this Monkey Peeler because I'm very committed to my Oxo Good Grips Vegetable Peeler. (I personally think it is the best peeler EVER. There aren't many other kitchen utensils that I feel this strongly about.) However, I did think this peeler was funny and it made me laugh!

LIFESAVERS

I've been having to wear high heels a lot lately (more on that later), and have found a new product that has saved my life!!! Band-Aid Blister Block Cushions. They are the best thing I've found to wear with shoes that rub your feet or to wear after you have a blister and STILL have to put those heels back on! They are a little expensive (more than a regular box of band-aids) but well worth it if you want to save your feet.

NICKNAMES

So I've been thinking about nicknames lately...I think because I have a nickname at work that was given to me shortly after I started last year. Pretty much everyone in my office only calls me by "Spice". And I picked up responding to it pretty quickly.

After thinking about it, I've had a lot of nicknames throughout my life and most of them were used for a long period of time. I was wondering if other people have a lot of nicknames too or if my name is just easy to nickname. I thought I'd make a list of them, attempting to list them in order of use.

  1. Dinder Vivvan (When I was a toddler, this is how I said my first and last name. My brother still occasionally uses this one.)
  2. Doodlebug (pet name used by my Dad)
  3. Little Bob (used consistently by my great aunt because I looked so much like my Dad)
  4. Ginny
  5. Ginger (both with hard "g" sounds, instead of "j".)
  6. Faye (a couple people still only call me by my middle name)
  7. Ginfaye
  8. Gin
  9. Ging
  10. Gingivitis (not because I had it, but because youth can be so funny)
  11. Gingerbread
  12. Jengibre (spanish for the spice, ginger)
  13. Ginja
  14. Ginja the Ninja Advenja
  15. Ginja the Ninja
  16. Ninj
  17. H.U.G. (Human Unit Ginger)
  18. Spice

And I'm sure there are others...you may even remember some that I'm forgetting.

SILLY GOALS

After having moved to the city where we ride the city bus quite frequently and after having watched Stranger than Fiction, a Will Ferrell movie that takes place in Chicago, one of my goals has been to ride on a city bus with and sit in the "bendy part".

How's that for a technical term?

After a little research, I learned that I'm referring to
an ARTICULATED BUS - a bus with one or more trailers, that have their chassis connected by (a) turntable joint(s), and their bodies by a folding polyester bellow(s).

Anyway, I've been on many bus rides, but still have yet to
catch a bendy one! Maybe one day soon.

Μπορείτε να δοκιμάσετε πάλι

Minda Lou Hoo and Charles were here last month visiting us for 9 days from their far away homeland of Singapore. What fun we had!

The first day they were here we walked to Greektown for the annual "Taste of Greece" festival. Since Mr. Ginger and I had recently attended the "Festa Italiana", we were anxious to compare and contrast. We played Greek/Not Greek which seemed to be more difficult than Italian/Not Italian. I mainly contributed to the game by pointing to anyone blonde and saying "Not Greek!" I'm so brilliant!

Then we wondered if we would see any famous Greeks like we had seen Tommy Lasorda in Little Italy. That led to a discussion of "Who are some famous Greeks?"
We came up with: Telly Savalas
Rita Wilson

Jennifer Anniston (new discovery - godchild of Telly)

Jimmy the Greek

In my opinion, naming famous Italians was much easier. Maybe you would have known some others to add.

But we enjoyed some delicious Greek food...gyros, tzatziki, saganaki, spanakotiropita, and baklava. So much so, that we returned to Greektown the following week for more of it! Mr. Ginger and I work in Greektown so we get Greek food pretty often...an added bonus! We'll take you too if you come to visit!

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?

Yesterday after work, Mr. Ginger was greeted at our condo door by Bailey, the cutest pooch in the world. Now keep in mind that Bailey plays in her LOCKED kennel during the day while we are at work. So as you can imagine Mr. Ginger was very surprised. The photo above is what he soon discovered. Apparently, Bailey has some supernatural powers and can pull down the kennel door. We're still not quite sure how she did it. But this morning, Bailey went back into a well-reinforced kennel. We'll see if she meets us at the door again today!
