Why PoMonkey? I like monkeys! And some friends were on vacation and sent us a postcard. They said that they had found the perfect place for us to live...Pomonkey! I agreed. Indeed, it would be fun to live in a place called Pomonkey. And a blog name was born.
Today is my big brother's birthday...well, actually, it's August 1st, but since he lives in another time zone, it's already August 1st there! We wish we were there so we could celebrate with him. Have a GREAT ONE, CLG!

My S-i-L sent me this to add to my cupcake information. It's a peanut butter and jelly cupcake from one of her local cupcake stores in Knoxville, TN. It's the "Orlando" cupcake. All of their cupcakes are named for U.S. cities. The Chicago one looks good too...all chocolate! They also have D.C., Minneapolis, New Orleans, Milwaukee, and more.
You may remember that I've posted Anya's prose before. I never know what's gonna come out of her mouth and usually can't stop laughing! Who thinks like this?!?! Her spur-of-the-moment imagination and creativity always surprise me.

I think my ortho doctor was probably a Polish Underground Resistance fighter in WWII, which means I’m sure he’s got some pretty cool/harrowing life stories, but also means I doubt he’s a huge advocate for anesthetizing patients before surgery. I doubt he sees what all the fuss is about; after all, in ’41 he had to amputate his own left thumb with nothing but a spoon and his dead sister’s handkerchief.

I was doing a drive-by read of a cupcake blog and saw this. I did a double-take. And then a triple-take! I like the cake, as well as the frosting, so this isn't for me. Is it for you?
The frosting shot has been created in response to consumer demand to cup the crap, ditch the cakey part of the cupcake and just cut to the chase. For a small fee, customers get a dollop of their favorite frosting in a paper or plastic cup, about the size of a frozen yogurt sample.
I have to add to all the props that Mr. Ginger is getting in response to his chapter inEveryday Theology:How to Read Cultural Texts and Interpret Trends.His chapter is on transhumanism, "a small but growing cultural movement that is a logical outworking of the spirit of our age: whatever can be done scientifically and technologically should be done." The title of his chapter is "Human 2.0: Transhumanism as a Cultural Trend."

He recognized ice cream as a fun and nutritious food that is enjoyed by a full 90% of the nation's population. In the proclamation, President Reagan called for all people of the United States to observe these events with "appropriate ceremonies and activities."
Last weekend we were in Grant Park and saw Strange Fruit, an Australian performing arts company. Definitely strange! Definitely different. Very creative. And almost impossible to explain. These videos may help. I'm not quite sure how they didn't fall over other than they must have INCREDIBLE abs!
This weekend I was discussing with several friends how I've recently started browsing lots of cupcake websites. (If you read ODINT, then you already know this.) I don't know why I'm doing this...other than maybe since I'm limiting my sugar intake, I just like dreaming about sugary sweets! Anyway, several people asked what there was really to look at - "a cupcake is just a little cake with some frosting". I tried to explain that it's so much more than that! But my descriptions failed miserably. So I decided to post some pictures here so you can see for yourself! Enjoy...and I hope you aren't hungry!

Pegalicious, a coworker, couldn't believe that I wasn't familiar with Lancelot Link. But I quickly remembered that she's my elder (which is why I give her so much respect). After investigating, I discovered that I was only 2 years old when it went off the air! And I don't think I did much TV-watching prior to that.
Of course, since monkeys were involved, I had to do a little more research. Here are a few notes:
live-action film series featured a cast of chimpanzees (Can it get any better?)
speaking roles were overdubbed with human voices (Really?)
network episodes added a laugh track; later syndicated and video versions do not (I'm shocked they'd even need a track!)
plots featured Lancelot Link and his female colleague Mata Hairi in secret agent and spy satires (Her voice kinda makes me cringe.)
Link worked for APE (Agency to Prevent Evil), engaged in an ongoing conflict with the evil organization CHUMP (Criminal Headquarters for Underworld Master Plan) (Who comes up with this stuff?)
regular weekly feature was chimp TV host "Ed Simian" introducing a musical number by an all-chimp band. (Now that is right up my alley!)
most expensive Saturday morning children's' show to that time, with location filming, props and costumes, and the laborious staging and training of the animals (Is it hard to get chimps to work?)
Anybody else out there remember it? In case you are intrigued, have a lot of time on your hands, need a good laugh, or want to make fun of something, I've included two clips below. The first one is of the all-chimp band, The Evolution Revolution. The second is an actual Lancelot episode. Warning: once you start it, you won't be able to turn away!
It is easy to make smores at home using the Microwave S’mores Maker from Progressive. Just fill the base with water, stack your smores, lower the arms, and microwave for approximately 30 seconds. The graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate will heat quickly and evenly while the arms hold everything in place. It’s great fun for kids and adults alike.
You would think you wouldn't need this gadget to make S'mores, but have you ever tried to make them at home in the microwave? The marshmallow puffs up making the cracker fall off and then it gets really hard. So maybe this gadget works. Still...nothing beats a S'more around the campfire!
I'm not sure I agree with this study. "They" say that the best time for you to clean your house is 4:00 pm because that's when hand-eye coordination is at its peak and mood levels are high. Hmmm...
I know it's way past Easter, but did you know that there was a Peeps Diorama Contest? I knew there were a lot of fun things to do with Peeps (I can't even tell you how many times I've enjoyed watching peeps in the microwave), but these are really funny! You've got to check these out. I think I like #11 the best. (And you Olympic fans will agree, I'm sure!)
